Which jobs qualify for the Sudbury RCIP in 2026?

In short

Your job offer must be in one of the 25 occupations on Greater Sudbury's 2026 RCIP list, from an employer the community has designated. The offer scores the employer's sector (10 or 15 points) plus the occupation's own value (0 to 12), capped at 25. You then need 79 points in total to enter the pool, and the 2026 draws have gone down to scores of 87 to 90.

The 25 occupations and what each scores

Greater Sudbury publishes a fixed list for 2026. If your job's NOC code is not on it, the offer does not qualify, with one narrow exception covered below. Each occupation carries its own points, from 0 to 12, and those points form part of the job offer score.

Twelve points: registered early childhood educators (NOC 42202). The same code covers early childhood educator assistants, and the grid scores them at 0, so the title on the offer matters.

Ten points: mining engineers (21330), chemical technologists and technicians (22100), civil, mechanical and electrical engineering technologists (22300, 22301, 22310), construction estimators (22303), family physicians (31102), registered nurses (31301), registered practical nurses (32101), social and community service workers (42201), instructors of persons with disabilities (42203), welders (72106), construction millwrights and industrial mechanics (72400), heavy-duty equipment mechanics (72401) and automotive service technicians (72410).

Eight points: rehabilitation assistants (32109), construction managers (70010) and auto body technicians (72411). Two points: transport truck drivers (73300) and automotive and heavy truck parts installers (74203).

Zero points, but still on the list: dental assistants (33100), medical laboratory assistants (33101), personal care attendants (33102), home support workers (44101) and early childhood educator assistants (42202). These jobs qualify, and the rest of the file has to carry the score. Finding your NOC and TEER explains how to match a job to a code by its duties, not its title.

How the job offer is scored

Sudbury scores the offer in two parts and caps the total at 25. The first part is the employer's sector: 15 points for Health, Trades and Transport, and Natural Resources and Agriculture; 10 points for Natural and Applied Sciences, Education, Social, Community and Government Services, and Business, Finance and Administration. The second part is the occupation's value from the list above.

So a registered nurse at a health employer scores 15 plus 10, which is 25. A transport truck driver at a trucking company scores 15 plus 2, which is 17. A personal care attendant at a long-term care home scores 15 plus 0. The Sudbury RCIP calculator applies the grid to your answers and shows the other four factors alongside.

The exception: the Business, Finance and Administration sector has no listed occupations, and the community says candidates there may be considered in limited circumstances once the employer is designated and has spoken to program staff. Such an offer scores 10 and nothing more, so the other factors would need to reach 69 on their own.

The federal rules underneath

The community's list sits on top of IRCC's requirements, which apply in every pilot community. You need at least one year, 1,560 hours, of paid work experience in the past three years. Self-employment and unpaid work do not count. The experience must be in a TEER close to the job offer: an offer in TEER 0 or 1 accepts experience in TEER 0 to 3; TEER 2 accepts 1 to 4; TEER 3 or 4 accepts 2 to 4; TEER 5 needs the same five-digit code. Registered nurses are the stated exception and may take an offer as a nurse aide (33102) or home support worker (44101).

Language is set by the TEER of the offer, not the experience: CLB 6 for TEER 0 or 1, CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3, CLB 4 for TEER 4 or 5, in all four abilities, with results under two years old. The CLB converter turns an IELTS, CELPIP, PTE, TEF or TCF result into the level. You also need a Canadian credential or an assessed foreign equivalent, and settlement funds unless you already work in Canada on a valid permit.

Graduates can skip the work experience requirement if they finished a full-time program of two years or longer at a public post-secondary school in the community, within the past 18 months, and spent at least 16 of the previous 24 months there. Language, education and funds still apply. The employer must be designated by the community, and it is the employer, not you, who sends the recommendation application to the community.

Sudbury's own rules

Sudbury adds rules of its own. An application needs 79 points to enter the pool at all; the community says files below 79 are not considered. The pool is then ranked after each intake. Across the six 2026 draws published so far, the lowest score considered was 88, 87, 87, 88, 89 and 90, and 392 of the year's 525 recommendations had been issued across the first six 2026 intakes, to August 28, 2026.

Two intake windows remain in 2026: September 28 to October 2 and November 2 to 6. An application not selected stays in the pool for up to six months. Candidates on visitor status, or without valid status in Canada, are not eligible. New graduates can apply only after they have started working for the designated employer. Applications from outside Canada are accepted if the employer helps with housing and a settlement plan.

Family connections count more narrowly than in some communities: parents, siblings or children aged 18 or over, permanent residents or citizens, who have lived in the community for at least twelve months. Employers can read the designation steps on our RCIP employer page.

What Cancord looks at

Whether the NOC on the offer matches the duties, because a personal care attendant offer scores 0 while a registered practical nurse offer scores 10, and the grid reads the code. Whether the work experience TEER fits the offer under IRCC's table. Then your total against the last published cutoff of 90, not the 79 floor. In our experience, a file that lands just above the floor waits in the pool for six months and expires; the score to plan for is the last few cutoffs. The dates and cutoffs in this guide come from the community's published intake table as we last checked it on October 1, 2026, and the page rebuilds daily so passed intakes drop out on their own.
