Proof of Citizenship
Proof of Canadian citizenship is different from a citizenship application by grant. People born outside Canada to a Canadian parent, and certain descendants, may apply for a citizenship certificate to confirm status. A child adopted abroad by a Canadian is not automatically a citizen and usually applies for a direct grant of citizenship instead. We review descent, identity documents, supporting records, and current first-generation limit rules before recommending a path.
In short: Proof of Canadian citizenship application support for those born abroad or descended from Canadians. For Canadians born abroad, parents of children born abroad and descendants of Canadian citizens. Checked against official sources October 2026.

Common Problems
Problems This Review Helps Catch
Travel history, physical presence, or residency obligation dates are unclear before filing.
A PR card, PRTD, or citizenship application is started without checking whether absences create risk.
Identity, name, travel, tax, and address history do not line up cleanly across the application package.
A permanent resident outside Canada needs a travel document but has not reviewed residency obligation concerns first.
Proof of Citizenship files can become weak when forms, documents, and explanations are prepared separately instead of being reviewed as one consistent package.
Proof of Citizenship Document Checklist
Use this checklist to gather the parent, birth, and identity records that usually need review before a citizenship certificate application, including claims under the 2025 citizenship by descent rules.
Built for Proof of Citizenship
Do not submit passport numbers, UCI, SIN, birth dates, document numbers, or uploads through this checklist form.
