What CRS Score Do I Need for a CEC Draw?

In short

In 2026, IRCC's Canadian Experience Class rounds have invited candidates down to cutoffs between 507 and 523, with the most recent at 518 on September 29. The cutoff is the score of the last person invited in that round, so it falls when IRCC invites more people and rises when it invites fewer. There is no fixed pass mark.

The numbers so far

IRCC publishes every round, and our CEC draws page is built from that data. As of October 1, 2026 there have been seventeen Canadian Experience Class rounds in 2026. The lowest cutoff was 507 on March 17, when IRCC invited 4,000 people. The highest was 523 on August 18, when it invited 1,000. The most recent, on September 29, invited 2,000 at 518. Half the rounds this year had a cutoff of 516 or lower, and IRCC has issued 55,250 CEC invitations in 2026 so far.

The pattern inside those numbers is size. Larger rounds reach further down the pool; smaller ones stop higher up. In 2026, the January and February rounds of 6,000 to 8,000 invitations cleared the pool down to 508 to 511, and when rounds shrank to 1,000 or 2,000 in the summer the cutoff climbed to between 516 and 523. Nothing about the candidates changed; fewer invitations means the line stops higher up the pool.

What a cutoff is

IRCC ranks everyone in the pool by CRS score and invites from the top until the round's quota is filled. The cutoff is the score of the last person invited, and ties at that score are broken by who submitted their profile first. So the cutoff is not a target IRCC sets in advance; it is a result. How Express Entry draws work explains general, program-specific and category rounds; CEC rounds are program-specific, meaning only people eligible for the Canadian Experience Class are considered.

Why this year looks the way it does

IRCC has held no general rounds open to all three programs in 2026. Invitations have gone out through CEC rounds, provincial nominee rounds, and category rounds for French speakers, healthcare, trades, transport, physicians, senior managers and military recruits. For someone with Canadian work experience and no category or nomination, the CEC round is therefore the round that matters, and its cutoff is the number to plan against. Provincial nominee rounds run far higher, 697 to 768 in the last three months, because a nomination adds 600 points.

If you are short

Ten points is a language retest. Moving from CLB 8 to CLB 9 in all four abilities is worth a large jump in the CRS, because CLB 9 unlocks the top tier of skill-transferability points. What CLB you need has the thresholds. A second year of Canadian work experience adds points too, as does a spouse's language result or Canadian education. A job offer no longer adds points. Run the numbers in our CRS calculator with the change you are considering, then compare against the recent cutoffs rather than the lowest one of the year.

Thirty or more points short, and the realistic routes are a category you qualify for, which invites at much lower scores, or a provincial nomination. PNP or Express Entry sets out that choice.

Reading the trend without fooling yourself

A run of small rounds pushes the cutoff up; a large round pulls it down. Neither tells you what next month brings, because IRCC does not announce round sizes in advance. What you can do is make sure your profile is accurate and complete on the day a round happens, since an invitation goes to the score on file that day. What to do once an invitation arrives covers the 60 days that follow.

What Cancord looks at

Your calculated score against the last five CEC cutoffs, not the yearly low. Then the two or three changes that move the score most for your profile. The draws page carries a monthly digest signup, so you see each round's cutoff without checking. Numbers in this guide come from IRCC's published round data as of October 1, 2026 and refresh with the site's daily rebuild, so they move on their own when IRCC holds a round.
